Deco wants 53-year-old former Barcelona manager to replace Xavi in the summer

Even though there are a few months left before the season is over, at which point Xavi will leave, FC Barcelona are already scouring the market for a replacement for the 44-year-old.

Over the past few weeks, names like Hansi Flick, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel, and Julian Nagelsmann have all been heavily linked, along with a certain Luis Enrique.

The 53-year-old former Barcelona manager took over the reins at PSG last year and has a contract until 2025, making things difficult.

Deco wants Luis Enrique

But, according to a report from Carrusel Deportivo, Barcelona sporting director Deco wants Luis Enrique to replace Xavi at the club in the summer.

Despite there being a number of managers being considered, the former treble-winning Barça boss is believed to Deco’s favourite option even though he is aware of the complications of signing him.

Enrique spent three years at Barcelona as manager between 2014 and 2017, winning nine trophies, which included the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League during the 2014/15 season.

A former Barça player as well, Lucho knows the club in and out and understands what is needed to succeed there, making him an appealing target.

Enrique committed to PSG

However, appointing Luis Enrique as the next Barcelona manager will be tricky as he has a contract with PSG that runs until the summer of 2025.

Furthermore, in a recent press conference, the 53-year-old reiterated his commitment to the Parisian giants, affirming that he is not looking to leave at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Deco and Barcelona do approach their former manager and try to convince him or look elsewhere for Xavi’s successor.
