Journalist responds to rumours of Jack Clarke rejoining Leeds

Leeds United academy graduate Jack Clarke emerged at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa’s debut season at Leeds.

Following his signing by Tottenham, he was immediately loaned back to Leeds but faced challenges on the pitch before eventually signing for north east outfit Sunderland.

Now, Clarke’s future at Sunderland appears uncertain as the Black Cats are unlikely to make a late surge for the Championship play-offs. Former Leeds player Carlton Palmer has raised the question of whether the Lilywhites could consider re-signing him.

After stints at Stoke, QPR, and Sunderland on loan, Clarke made just four senior appearances for Spurs. He then joined Sunderland permanently, where he has contributed to 49 goals in 105 matches.

This season he has scored 15 goals and providing four assists in 35 games for Sunderland, despite being currently sidelined due to injury.

In January, Lazio’s £15m bid for him was turned down, as Sunderland are reportedly holding out for £21m, according to Calcio Mercato.

Dean Jones recently stated on GIVEMESPORT that if Leeds achieve promotion, Jack Clarke is the type of player they would pursue. Former Whites’ midfielder Palmer addressed these rumours, stating to Football League World that signing Clarke is an unrealistic option for the club.

“I think it’s highly unlikely that Clarke will return. First of all, Leeds have got to get promoted. There are also a host of clubs who are in for him, and I can’t see him going back to his old club; I just can’t see it.”
