Portuguese superagent Jorge Mendes was in Barcelona yesterday to hold an important meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
The future of Joao Felix was one of the main talking points. Barcelona are keen on keeping hold of the Portuguese international but don’t want to chase a permanent transfer this summer.
Another loan for Felix?
Mendes is aware of Barcelona’s economic situation and as such, he is working on a deal to extend Felix’s loan agreement at Barça, reports Diario SPORT.
This essentially means that the proposal to extend Felix’s loan term to another year is on the table. Mendes now has the challenging task of reaching an agreement that fits all parties involved.
Atletico Madrid, for their part, want to get rid of Felix on a permanent deal. They do not want the player to return to Wanda Metropolitano and had initially proposed a staggering valuation for the attacker.
But after Felix’s stagnatic form, Aleti proposed Barcelona to sign a part of the player’s rights. Barcelona, though, do not want to spend a single penny on Felix this summer.

Barcelona’s strategy with Felix
Barcelona’s strategy with Joao Felix is quite simple. The Catalans want to extend the Portuguese international’s loan for another year, with a non-mandatory purchase clause.
Atletico want this option to be mandatory as long as the player plays a minimum number of games. The final figure at which this option is set will also be important because the differences in valuation between the two clubs is vast.
Barça are aware of the quality Felix brings to the table and believe he has the potential to become an important player in the near future.
Moreover, the departure of Xavi Hernandez should help Felix gain more game time. The Spaniard had never rated Felix highly, but the new coach might.
