Earlier today, we reported that Barcelona might miss out on current Brighton &Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi as the Italian is being eyed by Bayern Munich in case they fail in their attempt to sign Xabi Alonso.
Interestingly enough, within Barcelona, there is a growing sense of belief that the Italian might be moving away from the shortlist for several reasons and not just because of Bayern’s interest, reports Luis Miguelsanz via SPORT.
What’s the problem?
It is to be noted that De Zerbi was very much liked at Barcelona, but sensations have changed over the past few weeks. This is because first, Barcelona have not taken final steps towards his acquisition because they do not want to pay his €15 million exit clause.
Furthermore, it is claimed that the 44-year-old Premier League tactician does not generate consensus within Barcelona, making his appointment in the summer unlikely.
Even De Zerbi, currently facing poor results with Brighton, is indecisive about his future. Right now, he has a contract until 2026 with a renewal offer on the table from Brighton.

Barcelona are aware of his contract details, but the decision on the new coach won’t be made until the end of March.
As of today, a certain Hansi Flick seems like the last man standing for the job. This is because as the days go by, one candidate is being eliminated from the list.
As for Bayern, their interest has increased in recent times, quite specifically after the arrival of new sporting director Max Eberl. It is said that the Germans can easily pay De Zerbi’s release clause, but they’re also exploring options for Xabi Alonso.
At the moment, Barcelona do not have a lot of options to play around. It was once reported that they would love Xavi’s continuity but the manager is completely against the idea.
