Two of the U.S. men’s national team’s most productive players in Europe this season found the back of the net yet again on Saturday.
Haji Wright scored twice for Coventry City in a 2-1 comeback EFL Championship victory over Watford. The American forward now has 14 goals across all competitions for Mark Robins’ squad, continuing an impactful first season in England.
Wright’s 40th minute penalty kick goal tied the match for Coventry City at Vicarage Road after Ryan Porteous opened the scoring for Watford. After tying the match before halftime, Wright delivered the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute.
His long-range left footed shot nestled into the bottom-right corner for a 2-1 lead that Coventry City wouldn’t relinquish. It marked his second brace of the season, which proved crucial in Coventry’s push for a promotion playoff spot.
Eighth place Coventry City next visits Wolves in FA Cup play on March 16 before the March international break. Wright will seek his first USMNT call-up since featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Josh Sargent continues stellar 2024 form with latest goalscoring performance
2024 has been a bounce-back year for Josh Sargent.
Sargent delivered his eighth goal of the calendar year as Norwich City trounced Rotherham United 5-0 at Carrow Road. The in-form USMNT forward now has 12 goals this season across all competitions.
After earlier goals from Gabriel Sara, Jacob Lungi Sorensen, and Borja Sainz, Sargent capped off a four-goal first half. Sargent picked up a pass from Jack Stacey before drilling a low shot into the bottom-left corner.
Sargent was replaced in the 52nd minute, receiving a key break with the Canaries flying at home.
Sixth place Norwich City next visits Stoke City on March 16 in league action.
