Barcelona confident of keeping hold of Portuguese international

Joao Cancelo is one of many Barcelona players facing an uncertain future ahead, especially with his loan contract expiring at the end of the season.

Barcelona are keen on retaining the services of the Portuguese international, who has been a massive hit at Camp Nou this season.

Barcelona confident of Cancelo stay

A recent report from Matteo Moretto has offered a fresh update on the future of Cancelo, suggesting that Barcelona are confident of keeping hold of the right-back.

The report points out that Barça have every intention to retain the services of the former Juventus star, whose presence has helped the team significantly improve its build-up play this season.

The Catalans, in fact, are counting Cancelo as part of the club’s next season’s roster, even though coach Xavi Hernandez is all set to leave the club at the end of the campaign.

No negotiations so far

To prolong Cancelo’s stay at Camp Nou, Barcelona must go through a difficult round of talks with Manchester City.

Moretto suggests Barcelona are yet to kickstart any negotiation with Man City. But the talks might soon take place, as the Blaugrana look to make the first attempt in their bid to keep hold of Cancelo.

The club plan to sign the right-back on a reasonable valuation of around €25-30 million, but whether or not Man City are willing to agree to that proposal remains to be seen.

There are certain factors which do favour Barcelona, including Cancelo’s determination to remain at Camp Nou, along with the fact that Man City do not consider the Portuguese international as a part of the club’s future plans.
