Newcastle set for major overhaul as owners make Eddie Howe promise – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe will keep his job at Newcastle United, whether the club qualifies for Europe or not ahead of the 2024/25 season.

This comes from North-East writer Luke Edwards, who reports that Howe remains the man trusted to oversee the next phase of our project, despite last night’s concerning 3-2 defeat to Chelsea.

The club are expected to carry out a ‘major overhaul of the first-team squad’ this summer, with several changes on the way. Player trading is likely to work within FFP constraints, a host of fringe players are out of contract and there’s a host of positions we must strengthen.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us bring in an upgrade on Dan Burn, competition for Fabian Schar, at least one new midfielder, a right-winger and another forward.

It’s believed the club’s owners always felt our progress would not be linear. Profit and Sustainability rules have limited our recruitment and it’s been a season full of injuries that have sometimes left us with a weaker squad than last season; a nightmare scenario given the additional fixtures we’ve faced in Europe.

The Telegraph state that chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan will conduct an end-of-season review and assess all departments of the football club. His thoughts on Howe are not currently clear, but he’s set to be led by UK-based co-owners who all remain fully supportive of Howe and sympathetic to the challenges we’ve faced all season.
