The minimum objective for Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League this season was to reach the quarter-final stage. Having failed to get past the group stages in the last two campaigns, it was imperative for them to at least make it to the Round of 16.
Having done that, the Blaugrana saw off a tough challenge from Napoli and made it through to the final eight of the competition.
Mission not done
A place in the quarter-finals might be locked now, but the Barcelona dressing room is far from satisfied. Indeed, as per Toni Juanmarti, the players have set their sights on making it through to the semi-finals of the tournament and believe that it can be achieved.
Some of the heavyweights in the dressing room and the coaching staff have already launched some ‘input’ on Wednesday to reduce euphoria and encourage the group to realise that the mission is incomplete.
The objective is to get into the top four and then the pressure would be on other rivals with greater economic potential and a squad with more resources.
The squad feels that in the last few weeks they have taken a step forward in terms of form as well as the physical aspect. And with the possibility of recovering the injured players, the belief in the squad is high.

The report further outlines Barcelona’s preference as far as their opponents for the quarter-finals are concerned.
So far, apart from Barça, PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City have qualified. They will be joined by the winners of Inter Milan vs Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund vs PSV tie.
Among the seven possible opponents, either Dortmund or PSV would be the best possible option, while Barcelona see Manchester City as the only ‘unbeatable’ team.
