Newcastle United are continuing to track Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili ahead of the summer transfer window.
Toon scouts have attended multiple La Liga games this season to check out the highly-rated Georgian who stands 6ft 6′ tall, with a younger goalkeeper likely to be pursued.
Mamardashvili, 23, is also attracted interest from the Bundesliga and won’t come cheap following his impressive performances in Spain.
Newcastle will also be in the market for at least one midfielder this summer – a host of number sixes and versatile playmakers have been looked at – while a right winger and left-back are also wanted.
Emile Smith Rowe is a long term target and Arsenal may sell to help them stay within FFP limitations. Everton’s Amadou Onana is a primary target, while Atalanta’s Ederson and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White have also been identified as potential options that fit the club’s transfer criteria.
The expectation is that Joelinton will sign a new deal, but Onana is liked regardless of the Brazilian’s contract situation and was looked at in January.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is considered a dream signing. However, the exciting playmaker could be out of reach as Xabi Alonso’s side close in on the Bundesliga title. The 20-year-old is expected to stay in Germany at least another year.
Head of recruitment Steve Nickson has also been in Brazil in recent months to check on future stars who could follow in Yankuba Minteh’s footsteps.
