Gareth Southgate will select his latest England squad on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Three Lions’ upcoming games against Brazil and Belgium.
Anthony Gordon’s is suddenly back in with a real chance after it was confirmed he has NOT suffered anything serious and may even be fit for Man City, but there’s another Mag in with an outside chance in Tino Livramento.
The 21-year-old was our only shining light in an otherwise dismal display at Chelsea on Monday night – where Southgate was in the stands – and will be looking to capitalise on the number of right-backs currently sidelined, with Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, our very own Kieran Trippier and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all injured. Gordon could also benefit from recent injuries, as left-winger Jack Grealish remains absent with a groin problem.
Back to right-backs, Kyle Walker will be selected and Ben White has made a strong case following his superb form at Arsenal, yet he hasn’t been selected since leaving England’s World Cup camp back in 2022.
Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is another contender along with Man City’s Rico Lewis, but we’ve seen Southgate speak highly of Livramento earlier this season, not to mention the fact he’s highly-regarded after starring at every England age group from U15 to U21.
“Some of the younger full-backs are doing well – Tino Livramento has done well in his games for Newcastle, but being with the U21s is the right thing for him at the moment as well.” These were the England boss’ comments back in November. Since then, Tino has impressed in the Champions League, shone with England’s U21s, showed his versatility at left-back and scored a brilliant solo goal from right-back in our 3-0 win over Wolves two weekends ago.
It may still be a long shot, but Livramento could be one to watch when the squad is announced at 2pm on Thursday.
