Tyler Adams enjoyed his first appearance of 2024 with Bournemouth’s development squad last week and the first-team midfielder was praised for his impact with the group.
Adams featured in Bournemouth’s 5-0 win over Colchester United last week as he ramped up his fitness ahead of a first-team return. The U.S. men’s national team captain was sidelined since October following a second surgery on his hamstring.
Despite making a permanent move to the South Coast from Leeds United, Adams has made only one appearance for Bournemouth due to back-to-back injuries. After earning valuable minutes with several of the Cherries’ young talents, Adams was supported by Bournemouth youth coach Alan Connell to make a speedy return to the first team.
“Tyler is a lovely lad,” Connell said in an interview with Bournemouth TV. “Just from seeing him around the building every day, he’s very humble and very hardworking. Obviously he was probably our marquee signing last summer, so it was great to have him train with us and you could just tell straightaway he wanted to train well, get back and play some competitive football.
“It was great for our players to play with such a talent and such a big player, captain of the U.S. national team as well,” he added. “So it was great experience, especially for Lewis Brown playing next to him in midfield. Tyler came through it and looked fine, made some good passes and intercepted well. Hopefully it was a good day for him. It seemed that way and hopefully he can get back out there for our first team soon.”
Adams’ first senior appearance of 2024 could come as soon as Wednesday when Bournemouth hosts Luton Town in English Premier League play. A positive showing could be crucial for the 25-year-old, especially with potential international duty on the horizon with the USMNT.
