Gordon issues injury update and reacts to England call-up – Watch brilliant interview here

Newcastle United have released an in-depth interview with Anthony Gordon following his first call-up to the senior England squad today.

In the interview (watch it in full here), he discusses his reaction to the Three Lions call and discusses the knee scare that threatened to keep him out of Newcastle’s run in and the upcoming international break.

Thankfully, he’s revealed that his knee hasn’t swelled up and is ‘fine’, insisting he’ll do “everything” to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Man City and “won’t miss games” if his body allows him to play.

Gordon talks about his England “dream”, his determination to become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s plans and make the final squad for this summer’s Euros, believing Eddie Howe has played a huge part in his development since arriving from Everton last January.

“I was looking forward to that game (at Chelsea) so much, I knew it was a big opportunity for me.” Gordon said.

“Monday night football, two teams that are fighting each other at the moment – it was a big occasion but in the game, I picked up a slight injury which made me panic a lot at the time with my knee, you don’t mess around with your knees in football so when I had those feelings, I was just praying that it was nothing serious, and thankfully for me, it wasn’t.

“The day after the game I came into training and it didn’t feel bad at all really. It hadn’t swelled up and usually with the knee if it swells it could be a bad problem. I know my own body and I sort of knee at that moment I was fine but in the game when you’re getting certain shooting pains it can really offset you and as I say, it made me panic a lot.”

“I’ve always said, if I’m not injured, I won’t miss games,” Gordon added. “I was really fortunate there wasn’t much up with my knee, it was just a bit of pain. I can’t then just miss games because of a sore knee, that’s not what I’m about. If I can play, I’ll play. From…
