March 15 –Minnesota United have pinched Erik ten Hag’s first team coach at Manchester United, Eric Ramsay, to be the MLS club’s head coach, taking the position previously held by another Englishman, Adrian Heath, who left in 2023.
Ramsay (pictured left) is now being joined by Dennis Lawrence as first team assistant coach, and who was the first team coach at Coventry City and was previously coach of Trinidad and Tobago.
Ramsay spent two-and-a-half-years at Manchester United, joining in July 2021 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He as also an assistant coach with the Welsh National Team in 2023 and was part of Swansea City’s set up when they were in the Premier League.
“After an extensive search that included dozens of impressive domestic and international candidates, we are confident that Eric Ramsay is the best choice to lead our club,” said MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad (pictured right).
“His experience working with top-level players, coaches, and sporting staff at both the club and international level – as well as his alignment in playing style and development philosophy – all fit with the vision we have for the future of MNUFC.”
Prior to Coventry, Lawrence was head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Team from 2017-2019, managing the team at the World Cup Qualifiers in 2018, the Gold Cup in 2019 and Concacaf Nations League in 2019. Lawrence’s Trinidad & Tobago team notably defeated the United States in the final game of the World Cup Qualifying stage in 2018.
Minnesota have had a good start to their MLS season with wins over Orlando City and Austin, and drawing with Columbus. They face LAFC tonight at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
