Eddie Howe was quizzed on the club’s summer transfer plans in today’s press conference, responding to reports there’ll be a ‘major overhaul’ of the squad.
The boss admitted it’s tough to predict what will happen, but insisted Financial Fair Play rules will make it “almost impossible” to completely transform the squad in one transfer window.
“Without trying to predict the summer, which is very difficult to do, I don’t see a way we can have a mass overhaul,” Howe said. “It’s almost impossible because of Financial Fair Play rules.
“Any player that we lose from our squad has to be replaced, and it costs a lot of money to find elite Premier League players. I’m sure there will be trading, but I’m not sure how much.”
Howe was never going to come out and confirm that there’ll be huge changes this summer – he always keeps his cards close to his chest on transfers and rightly so. However, it’s a sobering reminder that FFP/PSR may continue to hamper the scale of our recruitment.
Hopefully we can sell wisely, recruit well and benefit from the increase in commercial revenues, with the Champions League money, lacking of spending in January and Sela/Adidas deals likely to be a big help.
