27-year-old feels his decision to leave Leeds United has paid off

Former Leeds United defender Robin Koch has been quite impressive since joining Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

The 27-year-old initially joined the German club on loan but the move was made permanent during the January window.

Koch has impressed with his performances in the Bundesliga and he has now earned a national team call-up.

The 27-year-old has now revealed that the exit from Leeds United was worth it just to make it back to the German national team.

“[Returning to the national team] alone made the move worthwhile, you could say that,” said Koch, via Sport Bild.

“Even before the international break in October, he told me that my good performances had put me on the radar. I was scheduled for the international matches in November but had to cancel due to injury. But even then, the dialogue was already very good, and the coach had sent me one or two videos.”

Competing with Leeds in the championship would not have helped him return to the national team and therefore his decision to leave the club has been vindicated.

He will look to continue impressing in the Bundesliga and establish himself as a regular starter for the German national team ahead of the European championships.

Meanwhile, Leeds are fighting for promotion to the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether they can return to the top flight at the end of the season.
