The upcoming international schedule is going to be a massive headache not only for the international federations but also for the players as well as the clubs.
FC Barcelona, amidst all this, are expected to suffer a lot because they have a majority of players who are eligible for the UEFA Euros as well as the Paris Olympics and that means more burden on players.
Interestingly enough, a report from Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Spanish Football Federation won’t consider the clubs’ views on whether their players should take part in both the Euro and the Olympics.
Once the Euro is over, they will approach the players directly and if they agree, the federation will select them, regardless of what their club thinks.
A major problem for Barcelona
In Spain, there’s a law that says if you’re called up to play for the national team, you have to go, no questions asked and this includes the Olympic team as well.
This rule is causing some problems for clubs like Barcelona, who have several talented players under 23 years old.
Barcelona are worried about what happened with Pedri in 2021 when he had to play in both tournaments. The clubs are concerned about losing their players for too long, which could harm their performance.

Players will have the last say
The Federation says that they are leaving the decision up to the players. If a player agrees to go to the Euro with one coach, then the Olympic coach will call them up too, regardless of what the clubs say.
For players like Pau Cubarsi or Lamine Lamine from Barcelona, if they have to play in both the Euro and the Olympics, they won’t have much time off.
The season ends in May, then they join the national team in June for the Euro, which ends in July. Then the Olympics start and go on until August. They would hardly have any vacation time.
Meanwhile, another player, Gavi, could also play in both tournaments…
