According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Gareth Southgate could be at the centre of a clubs-versus-country row now Newcastle United and Tottenham plan to take international players to Australia just days after the 2023/24 season finale.
Newcastle are due to play Spurs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, May 22 before facing A-League All Stars on May 24.
Eddie Howe is expected to take Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier on the 10,000-mile trip straight after our final game of the season away to Brentford on May 19, while Spurs plan to include fellow Three Lions star James Maddison.
The Mail reveal that Southgate is expected to name his provisional England squad for the Euros on May 21, meaning those selected for the European Championships could be put at risk of injury of fatigue when they are expected to take a much needed break.
The week after we return from Australia, England are due to face Bosnia at St James’ Park on June 3, followed by a second friendly against Iceland at Wembley, three days before the final squad is submitted on June 8.
