Barcelona loanee defender injured on national team duty – report

The international break always brings with it the risk of players getting injured which becomes a cause of worry and concern for their clubs.

Barcelona have had to bear the brunt of injuries to their stars while representing the national team and it appears that the ‘FIFA virus’ has struck again, although the Catalans’ squad will not be affected directly.

Barcelona loanee Julian Araujo injured

Indeed, as per SPORT, Barcelona defender Julian Araujo, currently on loan at UD Las Palmas, has picked up an injury while playing for the Mexican national team this week.

As per the update, the right-back suffered a muscle injury in the friendly against Panama, which his team won 3-0. The defender withdrew from the pitch with discomfort in the back of his thigh with half an hour to go.

Although the exact extent of his injury is not known, Araujo is now ruled out of Mexico’s match upcoming against the United States.

Araujo will also be unavailable against Barça, a game he was already set to miss due to the famous ‘fear clause’ in the loan agreement between the Blaugrana and Las Palmas.

Julian Araujo has a future at Barcelona

After arriving at the club in January last year, Julian Araujo did not play a single minute of competitive football for five months due to his transfer not being authorised by FIFA owing to some paperwork delays.

During the summer, the 22-year-old left for Las Palmas on loan, where he has thrived under the guidance of manager Garcia Pimienta.

Having been impressed by Araujo’s performances at the Canary Islands outfit, Barcelona plan on integrating him into the squad for next season given the shortage of options in the right-back position.
