Nottingham Forest face further punishment after lodging an appeal

Nottingham Forest have appealed their four-point deduction; if they are not successful, the deduction might be increased.

The Premier League team were punished earlier this month for violating the rules pertaining to Profit and Sustainability.

They now officially plan to appeal the ruling in an attempt to make up some of the ground they were shorthanded on.

But by opting to challenge the penalty, they have also made themselves vulnerable to a potential point reduction, according to The Times.

Nottingham Forest have lodged an appeal

A short club statement read: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

“The club will not be making any further statement at this time.”

After spending £34.5 million more than allowed over a three-year period, Forest acknowledged to breaking the regulations.

They do, however, think the four-point reduction is disproportionate.

They would have lost eight points if they hadn’t cooperated with the Premier League’s inquiry.

Forest will be hoping to get some of the points back like Everton did.

After being fined ten points, the Toffees were awarded four back through their appeal.

Premier League clubs have become wary of their spending after strict ruling by the league against the teams breaching Profit and Sustainability rules.

Due to their penalty, Forest are now one point below Luton and in the relegation zone.

However, the appeals procedure combined with Everton’s potential second deduction leaves bottom clubs unsure of what they need to do to avoid the drop.

42 players have been signed by the East Midlands club since they were promoted to the Premier League in 2022.
