March 26 – Designer brands are elbowing their way into touchline fashion as Real Madrid and Manchester City pen new designer deals to keep the football world in style ahead of their quarter final clash in April.
Real Madrid and Adidas have confirmed that the three stripes’ designer branch ‘Y-3’ will produce a stylish purple Champions League kit for the LaLiga leaders – their fourth purchasable shirt of the season, whose designer reputation will command a further inflated price tag.
In addition to the fourth kit, the collection features two goalkeeper kits – one in black and one in orange – as well as a white pre-match selection including a top, a pair of shorts, and an anthem jacket.
The LaLiga leaders have worked with Y-3 before, highlighted by a sleek black collaborative kit introduced in March 2022 ahead of Real Madrid’s title-winning Champions League run-in.
The collection is set to arrive in stores from March 27, but is anticipated to sell out quickly as it appeals to a wider audience than just fans of the club.
Simultaneously, Manchester City are set to enter into a partnership with luxury clothing brand C.P. Company which will see the Italian brand become the club’s official off-pitch fashion partner in the UEFA Champions League, with a start date set for the 2024/25 season.
The reported deal will allow the up-market fashion outfit to collaborate with the club on a series of off-pitch Champions League wear, replacing Canada-based luxury designer brand DSquared2 who have held a similar arrangement with the club for the past eight years.
While C.P. Company has been a mainstay in terrace culture since the late 1970s, the label has made a renewed push in contemporary football culture over the last 18 months – partnering with the likes of Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, Spur’s Destiny Udogie and Dortmund’s Marco Reus in recent campaigns.
