Chelsea plan to sell James and Gallagher to avoid PSR breach

Being already under investigation for possible financial rule breaking, Chelsea are aware of the need to sell some of their valuable players in order to avoid breaching Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. According to The Times, the two names they’ve decided to part ways with this summer are Reece James, the club captain, and Conor Gallagher.

James has endured a horrid season, making only nine appearances in all competitions. He picked up a hamstring injury after the first-round draw with Liverpool back in August, and returned to feature eight more times between mid-October and mid-December, before picking up a fresh problem that required surgery to be dealt with. As things stand at the moment, manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed hope that the 24-year-old right-back will be back for the final month of the campaign.

As for Gallagher, he has been one of the standout players in an otherwise extremely pale Chelsea team this season, and his exploits have attracted the interests of a number of clubs, both in England and abroad. Chelsea obviously feel the 24-year-old midfielder, whose contract will enter its final 12 months this summer, could fetch them a decent amount of money.
