Barcelona receive boost as key superstar will be available for Real Madrid clash

This past weekend, Robert Lewandowski earned a booking in the game against UD Las Palmas, which took his tally of yellow cards to five in La Liga, earning him an automatic one-match ban.

It would entail that the 35-year-old would miss the upcoming game against Cadiz.

However, there were fears that the striker could be handed a two-match ban due to Spain Football Federation’s disciplinary codes which dictate a two-match ban to be handed if a player gets booked deliberately.

In that scenario, Lewandowski would have ended up missing the crucial fixture against Real Madrid on April 21.

Only one-match ban for Lewandowski

However, now, it has been officially confirmed that Lewandowski will be suspended for only one match.

Indeed, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the RFEF Competitions Committee confirmed today that the 35-year-old will only be out for one game after there was no evidence found supporting claims that he deliberately earned that booking.

Referee Busquets Ferrer did not in any way reflect in the report the player’s intention to force the yellow card.

“In the 81st minute, Robert Lewandowski was cautioned for the following reason: for delaying his exit from the pitch during a substitution, with the intention of wasting time,” his report read.

For the two-match punishment to have been granted, the referee should have made a note of the player earning the booking deliberately, as per Article 119 of the Disciplinary Code, which he did not.

As such, Lewandowski will now only miss the game against Cadiz next week and will be eligible to play the Clasico away at the Santiago Bernabeu.
