Argentina extend world ranking lead, Belgium return to top three

April 4 – In the most recent update to the FIFA World Rankings, Argentina continue to hold the coveted first position and have even extended their lead. Despite a loss to Germany on home soil, France remain in second place.

Belgium has made a significant move back into the top three, regaining a spot on the podium for the first time since October 2022 – a healthy position ahead of the European Championships and a statement to those suggesting a decline in quality in the Belgium camp.

Meanwhile, England drop to fourth after recent defeats to Brazil and Belgium at Wembley, which has piled on the criticism for manager Gareth Southgate.

Portugal climbed to sixth place, leapfrogging the Netherlands, despite suffering a 2-0 loss to Slovenia during the break.

In a notable development, the USA has risen to 11th place after securing victory in the Concacaf Nations League, gaining 19 points in the process. However, breaking into the top ten remains a challenging task, with Croatia maintaining a comfortable 40-point lead over the Americans in 10th place.

Indonesia emerges as the standout performer in terms of movement and points gained, jumping eight places in the rankings after accumulating 30 points from just two games.

Conversely, Vietnam experienced a disappointing international break, dropping ten places and losing 30 points following consecutive defeats to Indonesia, including a 0-3 loss at home.

In the AFC rankings, Japan retains its position as the top-ranked team in 18th place, widening the gap over Iran in 20th and Korea Republic in 23rd.
