Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided some exclusive insight into the situation regarding two big names being linked with Manchester City – Lucas Paqueta and Jamal Musiala.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano played down the links with Musiala, suggesting that the Germany international’s contract talks with Bayern would be key to understanding his future.
Musiala’s current Bayern deal is due to expire in 2026, and although there’s been some talk that he won’t renew and that he’s attracting interest from Man City, Romano gave his response to the speculation.
On the Musiala to Man City rumours, Romano said: “I’m told that at the moment there’s zero concrete into any Musiala story or deal. Bayern will push to extend his contract, there will be talks, they will make an important proposal and we will see how discussions will go. Until that moment, nothing will be serious.

“Of course top clubs are interested in Musiala, that’s absolutely normal, but no one has started concrete talks yet as it depends on Bayern.”
Could Man City sign Paqueta instead of Musiala?
It seems there may be more concrete links between City and Paqueta, however, with the Brazil international still appreciated by the Premier League champions.
Whether or not Paqueta leaves West Ham United this summer, however, could hinge on what happens with betting allegations against him, according to Romano.
“Lucas Paqueta will be one to watch for the summer transfer window – we can confirm that his contract at West Ham, which runs until 2027 with the option of a further season, will this summer have a release clause of £85m. Let’s see who’s going to attack that release clause, because West Ham have no intention to negotiate, it will have to be the payment of that clause if Paqueta is to be sold,” Romano said.
