Exclusive: Liverpool have spent years scouting “one of the most talented centre-backs around”, says expert

Liverpool have been scouting Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio for a long time and that’s continuing now, according to Fabrizio Romano as he responded to latest transfer rumours involving the Reds and the Portuguese defender.

Inacio has impressed for Sporting and looks like he could be one of a number of their players to watch in the transfer market this summer, alongside other star names like Viktor Gyokeres and Ousmane Diomande, while their manager Ruben Amorim also continues to make headlines as he’s linked with Liverpool and other top jobs.

With Amorim to Liverpool seeming likely at the moment, it makes sense that links between the Merseyside giants and Inacio are also growing, though Romano insists nothing has really changed for the moment.

LFC’s interest in Inacio has been there for some time, and they are continuing to monitor him, but it seems that hasn’t necessarily led to anything more concrete yet in terms of negotiations, at least not yet.

“Liverpool have been scouting him multiple times but at the moment there are no talks or contacts, it’s just the same scouting activity that other clubs are doing for Inacio, who is one of the most talented centre-backs around.”

Inacio could surely be a fine option for Liverpool to consider, especially as Virgil van Dijk is perhaps showing some signs of age and being past his best, so it will be interesting to follow this saga and see if it develops into anything more serious in the…
