‘Time will tell’ – Barcelona loanee defender opens up on future

Sergino Dest is one of many Barcelona players who are currently out on loan. The right-back plies his trade for PSV Eindhoven and has been enjoying a stellar season in the Eredivisie.

Dest has featured in 37 competitive matches this season, racking up two goals and seven assists. His contributions have been key in helping PSV run away with the league title.

Dest opens up about his future

With his PSV loan expiring at the end of the season, Dest has opened up about his future in a recent interview.

Speaking after the narrow win over Vitesse, Dest admitted he is happy at his current club. “PSV are happy with me and I’m enjoying my stay here,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

When asked about a potential return to Barcelona, Dest ruled out a prolonged spell in Catalonia and expressed that his goal is to play regularly.

“My future? Time will tell. Barcelona? No, I want to develop. My future, wherever I am, is to play and develop,” he said.

PSV confident of keeping Dest

Barcelona, for their part, are desperate to offload Dest in the coming summer, as the club look for fresh revenue sources.

There is a €10 million purchase clause present in Dest’s loan contract. PSV are thus confident of keeping hold of the Dutchman beyond the summer, though the club are keen on negotiating a lower sum.

PSV and Dest already have a solid understanding and everything suggests the right-back would continue at the club next season.

Dest’s departure could go a long way in helping Barcelona trim the squad and make space in the wage bill. The player, for his part, would appreciate continuing as PSV as he looks to revive his career after a poor spell in Catalonia.
