According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United could yet cash in on Yankuba Minteh if a tempting offer arrives for the exciting teenager this summer.
In his latest piece on our summer transfer plans, Luke Edwards reports that the club are looking at potential outgoings to work out how much money we’ll be able to spend on incomings, aware of the fact certain players must be moved on.
The club do NOT plan to sell star men Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, but a flurry of ins and outs are anticipated before the end of June, which is when Premier League clubs must show their accounts to comply with PSR.
Back to Minteh, his sale has not been ruled out following his impressive loan spell at Feyenoord. Edwards reports that Eddie Howe will take a closer look at the 19-year-old winger during pre-season training before deciding on his future.
The Gambian was signed last summer for a fee in the region of £6-7m from Danish side Odense Boldklub. Newcastle may decide he’s a huge prospect and someone we plan to keep if he impresses this summer, but it sounds like we haven’t ruled out making a quick profit on the teen if a big offer came our way.
Minteh has 10 goals and four assists for Feyenoord this season and has played four times in the Champions League, scoring once in their group stage defeat at Celtic.
Personally, I’d be surprised if he left so soon – I presume we’d only cash in if a sizeable bid came our way that allowed us to make serious money. However, this is the reality of working within FFP/PSR rules and the sort of business others have done to maximise their spending power.
