Toon meet transfer criteria to trigger first permanent signing of 2024 – “I am here now”

Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Spurs not only secured three points at St James’ Park, but triggered Lewis Hall’s permanent move from Chelsea.

It’s been reported for a few weeks now that his loan-to-buy switch from Stamford Bridge contained a clause that meant he’d sign permanently should we finish 14th or higher this season.

After Saturday’s victory, it’s now mathematically impossible for us to finish below 14th, thus triggering a £28m deal that will keep the 19-year-old on Tyneside for good.

It’s been a season of growth and learning for Hall, who has only just recently enjoyed a run of games, but Eddie Howe has always praised the youngster and asked for patience, insisting that he’s a big part of our long-term plans.

Speaking to The Chronicle after Saturday’s win, Hall said: “I am here now as a Newcastle player and I really enjoy it. The future looks really good for the club with so many young and talented players. It is going in the right direction.”

He also discusses his versatility, adding: “I played a lot of my early senior appearances at left-back or wing-back. But I like to be versatile and play in other positions if required. I used to be a midfielder when I was younger but wherever the gaffer wants me to play I will play.”
