Last night’s defeat to PSG has understandably not gone down well at FC Barcelona, with the locker room allegedly feeling devastated after the outcome in Montjuic.
A 1-4 loss at home after having an advantage on the night is bound to leave a bitter taste.
After the game, Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan did not mince his words and was critical of the team about the performance, with his words particularly focused on a certain Ronald Araujo.
“This is the Champions League. No matter the opponent, it’s impossible to come back if one of your players is sent off,” he said after the game.
“It’s hard to say, but in these crucial moments you have to be sure you can get the ball back. If you don’t get the ball, and I don’t know if he touches it or not, you have to let it go. Going a man down because of the red so early in the game kills you,” he added.
Jules Kounde hits back
Just a while ago, it was reported that Gundogan’s scathing criticism had received some support from a section of the players in the dressing room.
However, it appears that Jules Kounde is far from pleased as he has issued a thinly-veiled retort to the German’s statements.
Taking to social media, the French defender posted a picture of himself along with the caption that read:
“Huge disappointment not to qualify for the semis when we had everything to do. By the way, we win as a team and lose as a team, always. It’s time to recover and get ready for El Clásico this Sunday. Thanks for the support, Culers.”
The part where Kounde writes “we win as a team and lose as a team, always,” could be construed as a direct response to the comments Gundogan made.
The French defender’s post was supported by a few other Barcelona players like Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto, and Vitor Roque all of whom commented on the post.
Irrespective of everything, the Barcelona players must now put the past behind them and focus on what comes next, with a monumental clash against arch-rivals…
