Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has had his say on the latest name being linked with the Liverpool job as Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini spoke about the rumours at a press conference yesterday.
The Italian tactician has done a superb job at Atalanta, helping them to a hugely impressive 3-0 win away to Liverpool in last week’s Europa League quarter-final first leg, making the Serie A giants the big favourites to go through to the semi-finals ahead of their second meeting tonight.
Gasperini could surely be good enough to make the step up to one of Europe’s elite, but Romano, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, says he believes the 66-year-old is going to stay where he is.
Liverpool have been linked with several candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp, who recently announced that he’d be stepping down at the end of this campaign, and it won’t be easy to replace him.

Gasperini spoke positively about the LFC links, but it seems he’s not likely to be someone in the mix to take over from Klopp next season.

“Gian Piero Gasperini will have raised some eyebrows yesterday when he addressed rumours about him being in contention for the Liverpool job,” Romano said.
“He spoke at his press conference ahead of the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final with the Reds, saying: ‘Of course I am happy with links to Liverpool job to replace Klopp but my focus is on the game.’
