Sergino Dest suffers serious knee injury in PSV training

Sergino Dest has been one of PSV’s best performers during the 2023-24 season but it is now feared that the Barcelona loanee will miss the remainder of the Eredivisie schedule.

Dest suffered a serious knee injury in PSV training, the Dutch club announced Sunday. The U.S. men’s national team full back is on loan at PSV from Barcelona through May 2024.

The 23-year-old joined PSV last fall on a season-long loan and has excelled for Peter Bosz’s squad. Dest has been a regular for the Eredivisie leaders this season, scoring two goals and adding seven assists in 37 combined appearances.

He helped PSV advance out of the UEFA Champions League group stage and also claim a current nine point lead at the top of the league table. PSV has four league matches remaining on its schedule this season and could clinch the title when it returns to action on Thursday at Heerenveen.

Dest has remained a key starter for the USMNT since Gregg Berhalter’s return as head coach. Despite missing the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal victory over Jamaica, Dest returned in the final to help the Americans defeat Mexico 2-0 to reclaim the trophy.

PSV has been previously linked with acquiring Dest in a permanent deal from Barcelona, however, that move could be put on hold following his recent injury.
