This has been a painful season at times for Chelsea fans. Progress has been limited, and at times it has felt like the team is going backwards despite the entire squad being refreshed.
But football always leaves you something to cling on to, and in Chelsea’s case there are a couple of storylines which have continued even as the season comes to a close.
Firstly is the challenge of getting into Europe. 7th or perhaps even 8th depending on coefficient results, will get you into some form of European competition this season, so the Blues’ mid-table position hasn’t ruled them out just yet.
Then there’s the FA Cup. After a painful loss in the Carabao Cup final, we’ve got a chance to make things right at Wembley this weekend. Our record in this competition is sensational – getting to the final this time around would be our 6th trip in 8 years. Sadly our record in Wembley finals is fast becoming a real catastrophe.
But all this means a great chance to win some money betting too – the bookies obviously fancy all-conquering Man City, the holders, but Chelsea certainly have a chance. If you think Mauricio Pochettino’s team can continue their good performances against Pep Guardiola’s side, plenty of top international bookmakers offer great odds on the next Chelsea game.
Yes City are a great and experienced side, but we’ve seen plenty of evidence this season that we’re more than up to the task of taking them on. We drew both our league games, and could have won each of them.
In fact, overall this season the team have done better when playing teams willing to come out and attack them. It allows our defensive line to sit deeper, which suits Thiago Silva, and creates space on the counter for our fast attackers.
Not only that, but this week’s events have played into our hands. While we had a morale boosting 6-0 win on Monday, City played out an exhausting extra time Quarter Final against Real Madrid, only to be knocked out on penalties.
Of course this…
