Barcelona granted permission to view footage of disallowed goal vs Real Madrid

Barcelona president Joan Laporta did not hold back after the club’s defeat to Real Madrid, lambasting VAR and how it is implemented in La Liga.

Laporta also demanded images and footage of the Ansu Fati goal that was unfairly disallowed by the VAR. He even went on to claim that Barcelona would seek a rematch of El Clasico if he is proven.

Many had laughed over Laporta’s comments, dismissing them as mere tantrums. But it appears they are starting to bear fruit.

Big boost for Barcelona

As reported by Catalunya Radio, the Technical Committee of Referee, also known as CTA in Spain, has agreed to receive Barcelona delegates in their headquarters.

The CTA is the apex body for all the referees in Spanish football and are answerable to any mistakes made by any referee or VAR in La Liga.

Barcelona had approached CTA demanding to see every footage and image available during Yamal’s effort on goal. And as things stand, CTA has agreed to their terms.

The body will allow Barcelona to view images and videos of the Fati goal, as part of Barça’s investigation.

What’s next?

Laporta has stated very clearly that he would not hesitate to go to court. As such, Barcelona will not rule out the option of approaching the Court of Arbitration for Sports if they are proven correct.

However, this entire investigation may drag on for a bit knowing CTA operates under Spanish football, which will be wary about exposing the league’s poor refereeing.

CAS, for their part, have appeared quite strict when it comes to issuing a replay, having put down a court order from Belgium to replay Anderlecht’s game against Genk earlier in the year.

Barcelona, for the moment, would like to keep their fingers crossed and focus on the games ahead. Barça’s next game is against Valencia on Monday before they eventually take on Girona in the Catalan derby.
