Barcelona to take legal measures to force RFEF to hand over images and footage from El Clasico

It appears that Barcelona will be sparing no efforts in their attempt to force a replay of the Clasico against Real Madrid following the 3-2 loss last Sunday under controversial circumstances.

The Catalans felt aggrieved by multiple decisions made by the match referee and the VAR on the night, none more than Lamine Yamal’s goal being disallowed even after it appeared that the ball had crossed the line before Andriy Lunin pushed it out.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta came out on Monday and demanded that the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) release all images, footage, and audio conversation between the referee and the VAR pertaining to the disallowed goal be handed over.

But, with the Federation and the Referees Technical Committee (CTA) unlikely to honour that request, it appears that the Catalans are ready to take the next step.

Legal measures to be taken

Indeed, RAC1 is reporting that Barcelona will turn to the justice system to force RFEF to hand over the relevant images, video footage, and audio concerning the event of the ‘ghost goal’ from El Clasico.

Barça, through their legal department, have already sent the RFEF a formal letter requesting the footage and audio of the entire Clasico.

However, the RFEF, which never facilitates requests of this nature, has already replied to Barça that it does not plan to make an exception now.

As such, Barcelona have decided to turn to the judiciary and force RFEF to hand over the footage via a court order.

Is a replay possible?

Furthermore, as reported on Tuesday, Barcelona are also exploring legal rounds to force a replay of the Clasico due to the VAR errors.

There is some precedent for the Catalans to make this claim as there was a similar incident in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League when Genk were awarded a rematch against Anderlecht by the league’s Disciplinary Committee following a major mistake from the VAR.
