As reported by The Telegraph, Man Utd have offered a compensation package worth just £2m for Dan Ashworth, leaving them well short of Newcastle United’s demands.
Ashworth was placed on gardening leave back in February after making it clear he’d like to pursue a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle weren’t going to just roll over for their Premier League rivals.
In an exclusive released last night, The Telegraph’s James Ducker reveals that there’s a £13m gap in valuations following talks. Newcastle would be willing to do a deal for around £15m with the further £5m in add-ons, but the Red Devils are willing to pay just £2m.
Initial rumours suggested that Toon chiefs were demanding £20m to get him out of his gardening leave period, which won’t finish until the end of 2025 and could leave the 52-year-old out of work for another 18 months.
Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe recently said how disappointing it is to see such talented people in football wasted on gardening leave, but perhaps he should put his hand in his pocket and pay up if he really wants Ashworth in ahead of the summer window.
