Newcastle United will be boosted by the return of Callum Wilson tonight, but it looks like Crystal Palace will come too soon for several players.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Howe has revealed that Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and Nick Pope are yet to resume full training and won’t feature at Selhurst Park.
It was hoped the likes of Trippier would use the week break to recover from a calf problem, but it seems that issue is taking slightly longer to heal than first anticipated.
Elsewhere, Joe Willock (Achilles) and Lewis Miley (back) have granted a period of rest and won’t feature in any of our final six games, joining Jamaal Lascelles (ACL) and Sven Botman (ACL) on the sidelines.
For Crystal Palace, new boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Jefferson Lerma, Marc Guehi, Sam Johnstone, Rob Holding, Cheick Doucoure and Matheus Franca will miss out once again.
Asked if Trippier, Pope, Almiron and Joelinton will play again this season, Howe said: “We hope so [that these players will return]. We hope all four could play [before the end of the season]. Difficult to give a definite date as none of them are training with the group just yet.”
“We’re trying to get as many players fit for the games we have coming up. I think there’s been some misleading stories that players are training and close to playing when they’re not. I don’t imagine a huge change in our squad for tomorrow’s game but hopefully one or two players could come back.”
