Earlier this month, reports emerged claiming that Barcelona were set to go after the signing of RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo in the summer.
It was suggested that the former La Masia man would be open to the switch as well, with even a meeting taking place between the club director Deco and his agents.
Olmo’s contract with RB Leipzig has a €60 million release clause, which the Catalans hoped to pay in instalments.
Barcelona’s pursuit Olmo cools down
However, now, a report from SPORT states that Barcelona have cooled down their pursuit of Olmo for the summer primarily due to the €60 million release clause in his contract.
It is true that Barcelona are looking for a forward to play on the left flank – someone who can be a threat in 1v1 and can deliver goals and assists.
And, Olmo was seen as a good fit for the role, with a meeting also taking place between his agents and the club.

However, Barcelona now see the figures to sign the Spanish international as unattainable at this point, leading to their pursuit of the former academy man cooling off.
RB Leipzig, for their part, are unwilling to negotiate a lower sum and offer any discounts, especially to Barcelona with whom they had tough negotiations to sign Ilaix Moriba a few years ago.
Furthermore, OImo has a very high salary at Leipzig – the highest in the squad and it is a figure that Barcelona are not in a position to match either.
As such, Olmo, despite being liked by Xavi and Barcelona, appears like a distant possibility.
The only way that a move for the Spaniard could be viable is if Barça are to sell one of their current attacking players like Raphinha.
