Newcastle may have failed to match the success of last season by not qualifying for the Champions League, but they will still hope to put together a run of form to qualify for another European competition.
Sheffield Utd have been doomed for a while and their relegation could be confirmed this weekend if they lose against Newcastle as they would be 10 points from safety with three games.
Current Form
Newcastle’s current form
Last time out, Newcastle suffered a surprising 2-0 loss away at in-form Crystal Palace.
Prior to that they were actually on a good run of form of three wins from four versus West Ham, Fulham and Tottenham.
Sheffield Utd’s current form
Unfortunately for the Blades, they are set to go down as one of the worst sides in Premier League history, with just three victories recorded in 34 games.
In those 34 games, they have conceded 92 goals and in their last game they were demolished 4-1 at home by fellow strugglers Burnley.
Eddie Howe’s team has been ravaged by injuries this season and the manager is still missing Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Joe Willock, Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, Miguel Almiron, Tino Livramento and Matt Targett.
Sandro Tonali remains suspended.
For Sheffield Utd, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Chris Basham, Josh Egan, Daniel Jebbison, George Baldock and Tom Davies are all out, while there are concerns over the fitness of Jack Robinson and Oli McBurnie.
James McAtee was recently injured, too, but the extent of the problem hasn’t been revealed.
Alexander Isak has been in lethal form for Newcastle this season and is reportedly wanted for a summer transfer by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Oli McBurnie is a rare attacking threat for Sheffield Utd, so they’ll be hoping he’s fit.
Scoreline Prediction
Expect Newcastle to relegate Sheffield Utd win a comfortable home win.
