Lewandowski confirms he will stay at Barcelona at least two more years

Barcelona will be dealing with a lot of players’ possible exit in the summer in an offload that could contain a lot of key players, including but not limited to the likes of Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Kounde, and Robert Lewandowski.

However, it will not be easy for Barcelona to force any player off the team if they do not want to leave, especially due to their high salaries and long contracts.

De Jong, for example, is one of the highest-paid players in Europe, and will likely refuse to leave as he will not get this salary elsewhere.

Lewandowski’s case is an interesting one. The Pole has been in underwhelming form all season, and will compete against Vitor Roque and Marc Guiu next season for a spot in the team.

He is not, however, considering an exit from the team right now.

Lewandowski aiming to fulfill contract

Previous reports have suggested that if Barcelona bring in a new striker in the summer, it could mean the end of the road for Lewandowski, who is turning 36 very soon.

While speaking to BILD (h/t Fabrizio Romano), however, the Pole confirmed his place in the team for next season, citing his ‘good’ physical fitness.

“Leaving Barcelona for me this summer is definitely not possible, it is not a topic,” Lewandowski said dismissing any potential departure at the end of this season, contrary to reports.

He added, “I physically feel good. As of today, this is the case for at least two more years. When I am physically no longer at a top level, I would start re-thinking.”

What is in store for Roque and Guiu?

While there are teams interested in signing Guiu on loan this summer, including Sevilla, it seems the Barcelona coaching staff appreciate his profile and want him to continue at the club.

He will also be given a senior spot in the team next season along with a contract extension, tying him to the club for the foreseeable future.
