Newcastle set to announce statement deal for Alexander Isak after Arsenal interest – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United look set to agree a new contract with Alexander Isak ahead of the summer transfer window.

Luke Edwards reports that the club ‘will not entertain any talk of him leaving’ and are ‘likely’ to announce a new improved contract for the Swedish striker in the ‘next few weeks.’

The 24-year-old still has four years left to run on his current deal after signing a six-year deal at St James’ Park in August 2022. However, the club are keen to reward his stunning form, move him alongside top earner Bruno Guimaraes and build around the forward heading into an important summer for the club.

This would also send out a strong ‘not for sale’ statement to the long list of interested parties, who are still expected to make moves for Isak in a bid to unsettle our star man.

But, with the man himself recently revealing how happy he is on Tyneside and committed to the project he signed up to two years ago, a new deal will be another step in the right direction and exactly what his brilliant form deserves after 23 goals in all competitions this season.

Speaking about Isak after his brace on Saturday, Howe said: “I think he’s world class. I’m not sitting around analysing all the other strikers in the world, but the biggest thing is, I wouldn’t swap him for anyone.”

“When you look at his age profile and what is to come, his attributes and his qualities, he is superb. It’s a shame for me and probably for Alex that there are these questions about his future. I understand why the questions are asked and the better he does, the more goals he scores. that will be a thing [that is asked] but we should just enjoy his performances and the way he is playing now.”
