Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag said: “We are one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league at this moment. We are creating loads of chances by playing good football. Every team gives up opportunities but when it is up to us, it is weird.”
Deluded claims given the Red Devils have rode their luck all season, scored 22 goals less than Newcastle and the lowest of all teams in the top 10, sparking a response from Alan Shearer.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer shut down ten Hag’s claims, saying they are ‘decent one week and hopeless the next.’ He also reveals that Burnley could’ve scored ‘five or six’ had they taken their chances at Old Trafford, which is exactly what we want to hear ahead of our vital trip to Manchester in our penultimate game of the season.
“No, they’re not,” Shearer said of Ten Hag’s comments. “You just don’t know what team is going to turn up. They get a decent result one week and they’re hopeless the next, you don’t know what you’re going to get. But that’s not true.
“Burnley played really well at Old Trafford and sliced through Man United with ease, although that’s not difficult these days. If they had taken their chances they could have scored five or six goals.”
Those comments from ten Hag really were ridiculous and were rightfully shot down by Shearer on the podcast. The Dutchman is clearly deluded, although that false confidence could bode well as we attempt to overturn that one-point deficit over the final four games of the season!
