Conte Chelsea return rumours from reports in Italy

Conte Chelsea return rumours from reports in Italy

Chelsea chiefs are reportedly really keen to bring former Blues manager Antonio Conte back to the club for a second spell amid the team’s current struggles under Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino took over at Stamford Bridge last summer but has not really lived up to expectations so far, with Conte perhaps understandably being viewed as a safer option due to his proven record of delivering major trophies in England and Italy.

Conte notably won the Premier League title with Chelsea back in 2016/17, and followed that up with an FA Cup final victory the following year, while he’s also won Serie A in spells in charge of both Juventus and Inter Milan.

According to La Repubblica, as cited and translated by Sport Witness, it seems Todd Boehly is really keen on Conte and is ready to make a huge effort to bring the Italian tactician back to west London.

Conte to Chelsea return – are the rumours what they seem?

Antonio Conte has been linked with a return to Chelsea

This could be a big story if it proves accurate, but it seems Fabrizio Romano, as per his Daily Briefing column, is not at all convinced that any contacts have taken place between Chelsea and Conte.

It seems a move to take over as Napoli manager could be more realistic for the 54-year-old, who has been out of work since a spell at Tottenham came to an end last season.

It’s fair to say Conte wasn’t too impressive at Spurs and some Chelsea fans might be unsure if he’s really the answer to their current problems anyway, as he perhaps doesn’t seem like he’d be the best fit for a long-term strategy built around young players.

Conte tends to demand instant success, and while that might’ve worked well with the last squad he had at Chelsea, he might need to be more patient with these players, who seem so clearly low on confidence under Pochettino.
