A pair of Americans stand in Leeds United’s way of reaching Wembley Stadium later this month.
Josh Sargent and the rest of David Wagner’s Norwich City squad face off with the Lilywhites in the EFL Championship promotion playoffs over the next two weeks. The Canaries suffered a 1-0 loss at Birmingham City on Saturday while Leeds United fell 2-1 at home to Southampton.
The winners of the Norwich City-Leeds United series will meet the winners of Southampton-West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium on May 26.
Sargent has played an important role for Norwich City this season, leading the team with 16 goals while also registering two assists in 27 combined appearances. The U.S. men’s national team forward delivered a sensational 2024 run after rebounding from a serious ankle injury.
Despite not featuring for the USMNT since 2022, Sargent certainly will be on Gregg Berhalter’s radar for this summer’s Copa America.
Leeds United, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, currently still has USMNT attacker Brenden Aaronson on their books. Aaronson is on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin.
Leicester City and Ipswich Town both grabbed the automatic promotion places this spring, booking their places into the English top-flight for next season. The Foxes earned an immediate bounce-back to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season while Ipswich Town will play top-flight football for the first time since 2001-02.
