Andre Onana admits he was not sure he was making the right decision by signing for Manchester United in the summer.

The Cameroon goalkeeper joined the Red Devils from Inter Milan weeks after playing in the Champions League final with the Italian champions.

Erik ten Hag worked with Onana at Ajax and convinced the club to fork out nearly £50million for the 28-year-old, who has had a mixed start to life in England.

He has come under criticism during the 2023-24 season for his shot-stopping abilities but has since silenced critics, keeping eight clean sheets in the top flight.

His improvement has made him a popular figure at Old Trafford and Onana sat down to reflect on his time with United so far.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: “When I look back now I am just smiling because it was a big lesson for me.

“In the beginning I was like, ‘Wow, did I make the right choice?’ but I’m definitely 100 per cent sure I made the right choice because Manchester United is the biggest club in this country and one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

United sit seventh in the Premier League table but can overtake Newcastle with a win against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages this season and have failed to challenge in the league.

But they did have a place in the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City at the end of the season.

Onana concedes that it has not been the campaign he hoped for but is expecting improvements over the summer.

He added: “I hope I have the answer but football is not like mathematics, one plus one is…
