Barcelona set sights on 18-goal Premier League striker as Lewandowski replacement

Over the past few weeks, the rumblings around the future of Robert Lewandowski at FC Barcelona have started to gather momentum.

The 35-year-old hitman has recovered his form after a slow start this season and has been in good touch in the second half of the campaign.

However, there are some within the Blaugrana hierarchy who are not totally convinced about his continuity, more so with his wages set to rise to €32 million next season.

Even though Lewandowski has made it clear that he is not looking to leave, the rumours of his exit persist, with Barça even being linked with a possible replacement for the Pole.

Darwin Nunez on Barcelona’s agenda?

Indeed, according to reports in England, as relayed by SPORT, Barcelona have identified Liverpool hitman Darwin Nunez as a candidate to replace Robert Lewandowski at the club.

Although the striker has netted 18 goals this season, he has not always been accurate in front of goal and has attracted some criticism as a result.

As such, the Uruguayan international appears to be disgruntled at Liverpool and his actions on social media support those claims as he has deleted all images of him with Liverpool from his Instagram account.

With Jurgen Klopp also on his way out, Nunez could ask to leave Liverpool in the summer, with Barcelona now being touted as a possible destination for the centre-forward.

Liverpool could be open to sale

Furthermore, Liverpool could be open to selling Nunez, which would come as a boost for Barcelona, although his price tag could become an issue.

However, Nunez’s wages are understood to be a quarter of what Lewandowski would earn next season, which would be welcomed at the Catalan club.

But, as mentioned previously, Lewandowski has no plans to leave Barcelona. So, any plans to sign Nunez would hinge on first convincing the Poland captain to accept a departure.
