Barcelona to meet the Referees Committee imminently to view images of El Clasico ‘ghost goal’

Last month’s El Clasico witnessed a series of controversies, specifically in regard to the refereeing and VAR’s decision to annul Lamine Yamal’s goal.

The young attacker found the back of the net from a set piece, but VAR ruled that his efforts were saved by Andriy Lunin before it crossed the line.

The VAR decision unleashed the wrath of Barcelona President Joan Laporta, who questioned the role of VAR in Spanish football. He even blamed the VAR for acting favourably to some teams and less so for others.

While initial reports suggested no conclusive evidence of the ball crossing the line, social media later surfaced images seemingly proving otherwise. As such, Laporta demanded the referees’ association in Spain, the CTA, provide these images.

CTA to meet Barcelona in coming days

According to Diario AS, CTA has agreed to host a delegation from Barcelona at their headquarters to view the controversial footage.

The CTA had flatly refused to send the images to the Barcelona hierarchy, citing security concerns. But they have agreed to host the Barcelona delegation at their headquarters in Madrid.

As per the report, the CTA is expected to meet the Barcelona delegation in the coming days to show the exact pictures of the incident.

Laporta previously hinted at legal action if the images definitively showed the ball crossing the line.

This meeting, therefore, could be a pivotal step in determining whether Barcelona pursue such measures, including seeking a replay of the match, even though that remains highly unlikely.
