Back in January, we released an exclusive revealing that Newcastle United were taking a close look at Slovenian star Benjamin Sesko and aware of a €50m (£43m) release clause in his contract.
The Athletic backed that up by confirming our interest last month and Sky Sports in Germany have now issued an update on his future, revealing that his performance-based release clause has risen from €50m to €65m (£55m) following his impressive form this season.
The amount depends on game time, goals and assists, meaning there’s a slim chance it could rise to as high as €70m-€75m if the 20-year-old performs in RB Leipzig’s final two games of the 2023/24 season.
Sky Germany have confirmed that a number of ‘top Premier League clubs’ are keeping a close eye on his situation and that Serie A giants AC Milan have joined the race as they look to replace Olivier Giroud this summer.
The 6ft 5′ forward has 16 goals in 40 appearances this season, along with 11 in 27 caps for his country.
Exclusive update on Benjamin #Sesko: The release clause in the Slovenian’s contract, valid from this summer, is performance-based. In the winter, the amount was still €50m.
