Concacaf readies draw and branding for inaugural W Champions Cup that kicks off in August

May 8 – Concacaf will unveil the brand identity for its new Concacaf W Champions Cup competition at the draw for the 11-team event on June 6.

So far eight clubs have qualified for the competition that will see a preliminary round reduce the entrants to 10 teams who will be divided into two pools of five, playing four matches (two home and two away).

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the final four (semi-finals and final) that will be played at a centralised venue.

All group games will be played between August and October this year with the final to be played in May 2023.

The US and Mexico each have three clubs in the draw, with NJ/NY Gotham FC, San Diego Wave and Portland Thorns qualified from the US and Club America and Tigres UNAL from Mexico, to be joined by the LigaMX Clausura champions or runner-ups, which currently looks like being Pachuca or Monterrey.

Concacaf has allocated the teams into six pots, ensuring that neither group will be loaded with three teams from either Mexico or the US.

The W Champions Cup is the only pathway for teams to qualify for the Women’s Club World Cup, which FIFA has said it will launch in the near future.
