Harry Kane breaks silence after “tough to take” Champions League exit

Harry Kane has broken his silence after Bayern Munich’s Champions League exit on Wednesday night, insisting he is proud of how the team battled over the two legs.

Heading into the second leg the tie was finely poised after the first leg finished 2-2 in Munich, and Bayern appeared set to make it an all German final when Alphonso Davies fired them ahead.

Unfortunately for the Bavarians Joselu had other plans as he came off the bench to score twice late on and send Carlo Ancelotti’s side to Wembley, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.

Defeat for Bayern will hurt having been within touching distance of the final, and it now means they have suffered their first trophyless season since 2011-2012.

For Kane it will be painful having swapped Tottenham for Bayern last summer in search of trophies, and he was taken off with five minutes remaining leaving him powerless to prevent his team from going out.

The England captain who has scored 44 goals in all competitions has broken his silence stating he’s “gutted”, but proud of how Bayern performed over the two legs.

Kane has had brilliant season on an individual level.

Kane took to X and wrote:

“Gutted. Last night was tough to take.

“Proud of how we battled over the two legs which says everything you need to know about the spirit of this team and how far we can go. #MiaSanMia.”

The striker may not have won any trophies this season but he is set finish as the top scorer in the Bundesliga, and currently has 36 goals, 11 clear of Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy.
