Top journalist says what all Toon fans have been thinking – Newcastle star robbed?

Football journalist Henry Winter has questioned the decision to omit Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon from the list of nominees for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year award.

Gordon has arguably been Newcastle’s best or most influential player this year with 10 goals and 10 assists, as well as winning a further six penalties during the campaign.

Toon supporters can’t quite understand how the 23-year-old has seemingly been forgotten about when someone like Kobbie Mainoo, who has been impressive in a handful of games, or has earned a spot on the list.

Winter acknowledges that the Man United midfielder and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie have both been good players, but  that Gordon has been ‘thrilling’ to watch as a neutral, not only producing the goods but ‘scaring defenders’ and showing impressive versatility. Here’s what he had to say on X:

Very surprising that Anthony Gordon is not amongst the 8 nominees for @premierleague Young POTY. 10 goals, 10 assists, thrilling to watch, versatile, scares defenders, good chance of #ENG squad. Fantastic season. Mainoo/Udogie have had good seasons but better than Gordon’s? #NUFC

The esteemed journalist also claimed that Gordon has a good chance of making the England squad with the summer, especially with it being increased to a 26-man squad in the last couple of weeks.
